Closing FAQ
We wanted to take a minute to first say thank you for your kind words and memories of food we’ve been able to make for you over the years. Lots of happy memories and happy tears. Second, we wanted to answer some questions.
1. What will you do next?
Short answer- Kyle has already started a new job. I will most likely set up as a home baker and convert our home office to a mini bakery.
Long answer- Kyle is working for Easterseals Crossroads, a non profit out of Indy. He’s working from home as a data management specialist and is really loving it! I will likely take a couple of months to reset, but will then set up as a more boutique baker. One option is to be a cottage baker with our office converted into a mini bakery where I can do everything, except the dishes, all in one place. I will probably adjust our menu and offerings to be a little more simple, but look forward to possibly doing markets again.
2. What are your hours/when do you officially close?
Short answer- Normal hours all month!
Long answer- We will keep normal hours (M-F 7:30am-4pm, Sat 8:30am-4pm) all month. Thursday 12/7 is Light Up Downtown, so we will be open until 8pm. Christmas week is still TBD, but our last day open will be Saturday the 30th.
3. Would a crowd funding campaign help you keep the doors open?
Short answer- No, but if people chose to start one, the money would be used to help our team during their transition of switching jobs.
Long answer- We find ourselves in a good amount of debt, primarily stemming from overdue accounts. The business assets, represented by equipment, have a significant value that should cover this debt when sold. If we accumulate more debt, we are facing bankruptcy within a relatively short timeframe unless there’s a substantial turnaround. Instead of risking sudden closure, we prefer a more controlled approach, allowing for additional time to wind down operations. Even if we secure funds to settle the debt, we need additional resources for equipment repairs to align with our vision for the shop. However, even with the necessary resources, there’s no guarantee that the expected sales will cover these expenses.
4. Have you looked at selling the business?
Short answer- Yes, we are open to it! It’s complicated.
Long answer- Due to consecutive financial losses over the past two years, which is typical for an initial period in a retail establishment, our current valuation on paper is not substantial. In the event of sellng the business along with its equipment, the proceeds may not be sufficient to rationalize me leaving baking and starting a new career. We would entertain offers over our assessed value, we recognize the business’s untapped potential, but acknowledge our limitations in propelling it to the next level.
5. How can we help?
Short answer- Support us this month!
Long answer- We need to sell, sell, sell! You can order in bulk to keep your freezers stocked with burritos, you can order for Christmas, you can come see us regularly over the next few weeks, etc… That’s the best way to help!
We also need to find someone to sublease our space. This is big. If you or someone you know is looking to open a space downtown, get in touch and we can introduce you to our landlord!
6. Will you release a recipe book?
Short answer- We’re looking into this!
Long answer- This is a great way for people to give what they can and get something in return. We are figuring out what this looks like and will update you soon.
Thank you for caring about us and our future.
